The Department of Mass Communication, Kaduna Polytechnic in conjunction with African Initiative for Advancing Social Care and Development; Jamar Health Foundation celebrated the International Girl Child Day themed “Our Time is Now, Our Future is Here”
The welcome address was given by the Head of Department, Dr Gambo Ahmed, who thanked the organisers and also said the topic is centered on the female child and why it is important to educate them on the vital things they ought to have in the society.
He talked about the women in general and how they can properly look out for themselves and their babies when they start having children of their own
Dr Mariam Jallo gave the founder of Jamar health foundation welcomed everyone and listed the issues that will be discussed in the occasion.
Mallam sanusi rufai welcomed everyone present in the program and he said the theme for this program is OUR TIME IS NOW AND OUR RIGHTS OUR FUTURE.the program is all about the roles of the girl as that of the boy ,he stated that the girl child has more opportunities at the same some challenges. according to him he said a child is a person who is beyond 18yrs,he said the right of a child is to be protected and today so many childrens right have been violated.the activities that may affect a child are much for instance marriage of a child below the age of 18 is wrong and is punishable by law,no parent should tattoo a child ,no child should be employed as domestic help,allowing a child to hawk or prostitute is punishable by law and so many of this laws have been violated making the girl child experience all forms of violence by either people who are close to them,it is reported Nigeria has the largest number of child abuse and today over 6milliom and 60% are the girls.
